Overview
This policy explains what personal data VoteHer collects, why we collect it, and the choices and rights you have. We aim to collect as little as possible — you can use VoteHer and cast votes without giving us your name or email.
What we collect and why
- Votes and game activity — the matchups you decide and games you play. This is what powers the community rankings.
- Points, tickets, and streaks — your in-product progress, so we can show your balance and prevent abuse.
- A device / visitor identifier — a pseudonymous id stored in the
vh_uidcookie so we can keep your session, attribute your votes, and detect vote manipulation. It is not linked to your real-world identity unless you choose to give us account details. - Account details you provide — for example, an email if you create or claim an account, or the contents of a rights or support request.
- Basic technical data — such as approximate region and general device type, used for security and to keep the Service running.
The legal bases we rely on include performing our contract with you (providing the Service), our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, and improving the product), and, where required, your consent.
The vh_uid cookie
We use a first-party cookie named vh_uid to store the pseudonymous visitor identifier described above. It lets us remember your session, count your votes once, and protect the integrity of rankings. We do not sell this identifier.
Your GDPR rights
If you are in the EEA or UK (and in many other regions with similar laws), you have the right to:
- Access — obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification — have inaccurate data corrected.
- Erasure— ask us to delete your data (“right to be forgotten”).
- Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- You may also object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent where processing is based on it.
How to exercise your rights
If you have an account, you can export or delete your data directly from your account page. For any other request — including access, rectification, erasure, or portability — use the rights request flow and choose the relevant request type. We may need to verify your identity or control of an account before we act, and we aim to respond within 30 days.
Data retention
We keep personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purposes described here — for example, to operate rankings, maintain your balance, and meet legal or security obligations. Aggregated or anonymized data, which no longer identifies you, may be retained for longer. When you delete your account, we remove or anonymize the associated personal data within a reasonable period, except where we must keep limited records to comply with law or prevent abuse.
Children’s data
VoteHer is not intended for children under 16, and accounts require users to be at least 16 (and 18 for creator claim, rewards, and promotions — see our Terms of Service). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us through the rights request flow and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide additional notice where appropriate.
